Thanks to all for helping us celebrate Inuulisautinut Niuvirvik’s grand opening on July 8, 2021.
The early-morning opening ceremony was short, but meaningful with remarks from Victor Tootoo, a North West Company Board Member, Mayor Kenneth Bell and Tom Kennedy, the Store Manager. Elder Elisapi Anigmiuq was unable to join us for an opening prayer, but we appreciate her willingness and kind thoughts. Finally, thanks to Neevee Wilkins for accepting a donation on behalf of Joamie Elementary School Breakfast Program; we love opening a new store with a gift to a group doing great work in the community.
The real star of opening day—and opening weekend—was your store. Everyone agreed that it looked fantastic and showcased an exciting range of products and services that are firsts for Iqaluit. Booster Juice was a big hit, the gift shop was gorgeous and the cosmetics section was popular and fun. Special thanks to all community members for coming out and patiently understanding that “new” also means a few growing pains. We’re getting better and—with your suggestions—will continue fine-tuning to meet the needs and wants of Iqalummiut and Nunavummiut. Remember, this isn’t our store—it’s your store.
